Emergency Responder Training

The course

It trains personnel on how to assist emergency services incident controllers at the scene of a bulk tanker accident for all classes of dangerous goods. Companies are required under the dangerous goods code to have a TERP, and arrangements in place to allow them to respond to dangerous goods emergencies.

Recognition

At the completion of this three day course attendees will receive a nationally recognised certificate of competency in emergency responder training. They will have been tested in their ability to respond to bulk tanker incidents, both in the classroom and field work.

In addition, those who successful complete the course and assessment will be eligible to apply for an Emergency Responder card that will detail their qualifications. The Emergency Responder Card scheme is being developed in consultation with the Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC), the cards will be issued by a third party provider.

AFAC is the peak national emergency response organisation with members across all the major fire and rescue services in Australasia.

Who should attend

Individuals who have responsibility for attending emergency response scenes and who are involved in dangerous goods recovery operations would strongly benefit from this course. The course is designed for all classes of dangerous goods. Transport operators, oil and gas companies, regulatory agencies, emergency responder organisations and manufacturers would benefit from attending this course.

Pre qualifications

Attendees must satisfy a pre qualification assessment. This assessment includes the need for at least one person from their organisation having attended the TERP course, or by demonstrating that their organisation has a TERP or has an understanding of them in their workplace. Individuals within companies who feel this course is relevant and who pass the pre qualification assessment are able to attend.

Locations and dates

Courses are normally run at TISC, near Canberra Airport. Courses can be run at other locations in other States, subject to arrangement. A normal class sizes is 12 individuals but more can be accommodated.

Course costs

The cost of the three day course is in the order of $2000 per person plus GST (This is dependent upon the numbers enroled in each course)
