Event Information

According to NBTA research there is on average one serious tanker incident a week across Australia. Around half of these are single vehicle events with about one third involving a roll over. About half of the incidents result in a significant loss of containment. During 2016 fourteen people lost their lives as a result of these incidents.

This scorecard of incidents and their outcomes is the starting point for a conversation we will hold at Bulk Tanker Day. Questions of causality and the effectiveness of prevention measures will be discussed by leading tanker operators. The role of technology in aiding safer outcomes as well as the significance of the human factor in influencing outcomes will also be on the table.

The day will be capped with a practical emergency response exercise conducted by Fire and Rescue NSW.
